Assessment of Academic Achievement
Assessment of course is not contingent upon assessment in the co-requisite course class. course replaces the ENG-092 and ENG-082 ELL courses to accelerate enrollment into college level coursework. Students must earn a grade of S (Satisfactory) in course before advancing to their next college level writing class. Students who do not pass course must take ENG-092 and, if necessary, ENG-082. Students may not repeat course.
Assessment of academic achievement will be identified and implemented by the class instructor. Methods will include, but not be limited to, assignments, essays, quizzes, tests, and a departmental exit essay.
General Course Requirements and Recommendations
While additional assignments are necessary and should be identified by individual instructors in their syllabi, the following are required in all sections of course. All students must:
Attend at least two individual conferences focusing on student reading and writing practices
Brainstorm ideas for essay topics and essay development
Rough draft workshop for course essays
Peer review rough drafts
Group discuss reading assignments to evaluate comprehension
Participate in grammar review and assessment (i.e. quizzes or short tests)
Practice vocabulary enhancement strategies
Demonstrate research and citation techniques (i.e. college databases, internet searches, in-text citation practice, Works Cited generators)
