Course Goals

course is designed to help English Language Learners (ELL) acquire high-beginning-level writing and grammar skills in order to communicate more clearly and accurately in English.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Write simple, compound sentences, and questions.

Use appropriate punctuation and capitalization.

Use coordinating conjunctions to connect words, phrases, and simple sentences.

Use infinitives and gerunds as nouns.

Replace nouns with appropriate pronouns based on word order.

Write sentences using regular and irregular verbs in the simple past and present; past and present continuous; modals, and future tenses.

Use comparative and superlative adverbs and adjectives to describe.

Formulate statements, imperatives, and questions.

Write complete topic, supporting, and concluding sentences.

Use new vocabulary correctly in sentences.

Organize sentences in paragraph form.

Demonstrate audience awareness in different writing tasks.
